RE:  TC0₂ REVIEW SUB COMMITTEE REPORT

The TC0₂ Review Sub Committee Report was released on 10 April 2001.  The AHRC Executive confirms that the Report was tendered by the Sub Committee in accordance with the terms of reference agreed to by Council Members and will be the subject of discussion at Council’s meeting on 30 April.  It does not represent Council policy.

In response to comments that have been made since the release of the report and to correct any misconceptions, Dr Diane Ryan, Chairperson of the Sub Committee and the Executive provide the following clarification.

• While acknowledging that some of the content of the Report could be interpreted to mean that current procedures for the measurement of TC0₂ are not satisfactory any such interpretation is wrong as the Sub Committee did not make any such finding.

• The Sub Committee did not find that the absence of certified reference material in any way compromises the quality of current analytical services.  It acknowledges that such material is not presently available anywhere in the world and the recommendation is made to ensure the continuity of integrity in the future, if and when such material becomes available.

• The Executive and the Sub Committee recognise that each racing laboratory is accredited for the measurement of TC0₂ and endorse the current analytical procedures.  Those procedures meet the requirements of Council.

• The Sub Committee accepts the advice of the Australian racing laboratories that the analytical procedures currently being used provide an accurate measurement of TC0₂.

If there are any other matters that require clarification, these may be raised and discussed at the Council meeting where Dr Ryan will be in attendance.
