Australia’s Double Identity failed to make the most of the shock scratching of Young Rufus NZ on the day of its first Inter Dominion heat.  Both horses were equal leaders on the progressive points to decide the new Grand Circuit Champion following the A.G. Hunter Cup.

As the star five-year-old Kiwi fought for its life, Double Identity twice galloped away from the mobile in two heats, throwing away all chance of securing enough points to make it through to the Grand Final. Both horses during the 15 legs of the Group One races had each won three Grand Circuit races for 15 points.  Young Rufus NZ collected only two points in the New Zealand Cup, with Double Identity also picking up just two points in the Treuer Memorial. Following is the official points for the 15 events:

Double Identity & Young Rufus NZ 17, Baltic Eagle NZ 15, Jofess & Mont Denver Gold 8, Yulestar NZ & Backina Falcon 7, Gracious Knight (NZ), Thorpedo & Smooth Satin 5, Shakamaker 4 & Facta Non Verba NZ 3, Wally Walton, Daman, Sokys Raider NZ and Bengeeman 2, Selby Bromac NZ, Shortys Girl (NZ), Stars And Stripes NZ, Jay Bees Flush NZ, Marbles, Highest Honour NZ, Go Charles NZ, Another Party NZ, Meggie Dear, Unique Icon &  Holmes D G NZ 1.
