TO:  RACING INDUSTRY PARTICIPANTS

Attached is a copy of a Discussion Paper prepared by a Sub-Committee of the Australian Harness Racing Council for consideration and discussion.

Council has an excellent system of freeze branding utilising the alpha angle branding system. There is no proposal to alter this at this stage. Similarly Council is currently looking at DNA Genotyping and its introduction with Expressions of Interest lodged.

However it is important that general agreement on policy be made NOW to ensure that when Racing Authorities wish to progress the issue of adoption and implementation of implanting microchip technology into the equine racing and breeding herd that it be internationally consistent.

This discussion focuses our thoughts on progressing a nationally consistent policy for the Racing Codes. It is referred for your consideration and response - ahrc@harness.org.au
